You’re Gonna Love Our Pillars

SRW block arbor pillar

At Stonehenge, we think there are lots of reasons why you’d choose us to build your outdoor living space.  Just one of the many is our amazing pillars.  Above you can see a project underway on Doty Island that included a raised patio and cedar arbor with pillar-wrapped posts.

What makes our pillars, like the rest of our work, so special?  Maybe it’d help if we showed you pictures of some of the other pillars made by other landscape contractors.

Belgard Weston Wall PillarThe picture above is from the website for Belgard, one of the premier paver and block manufacturers in the United States.  And what do you see?  Row after unvarying row of block.  The block are nice, but the construction?  A bit lacking in imagination.

And from Unilock?  Another big, reputable manufacturer making great materials.  But row after row after unchanging row? Come on.

There’s a reason you see so many pillars and columns built this way: it’s fast and it’s easy.  The block are set in such a way that it takes a minimum amount of skill and attention to detail to get them built and move on to the next thing.

If you scroll back up to the top of this page, you’ll see part of what separates us from the rest of our competition.  Laying block in that sort of arrangement, different exposed faces, different sizes, gives our pillars the natural, varied look of stone.  Our way isn’t easier.  Quite the opposite.  Building pillars the Stonehenge way means more cutting.  It requires more attention to detail, the varied contact surfaces and sizes of the block making it more difficult to put and hold block in alignment as the construction-grade adhesives cure.  But we think you’ll feel the way we do, that the results are worth it.

And if the look of natural stone isn’t quite enough?  We’ve got you covered.  As the only landscape contractor that provides in-house masonry services in the Fox Valley area, we can build your seat wall, pergola or arbor with gorgeous, real stone, like the one we built below.
