The Weather Outside Was Frightful

The cold and snow moved in to close out the 2014 construction season, but at Stonehenge we weren’t quite ready to give in on ending the year.

The benefits (to both us and our clients) in offering masonry-built hardscapes are not limited the endless design options, the timeless beauty and the durability of stone veneer over mortared CMUs, atop reinforced concrete footings (though that list is pretty impressive, isn’t it?).

Another benefit is that when the snow flies, it doesn’t mean our season is done – we can continue working into the winter, to turn blank and blah spaces into hardscape stunners, with grills, cooktops, fireplaces, fridges, sinks and anything else you could need in your outdoor entertaining space.  For this project we utilized scaffold and lumber and thin EPDM plastic to cover our workspace, and simple, custom-fabricated wood burning stoves to heat the interior.

You can see our progress below, toward a grill island and curved stone dining table/countertop, complete with lighting, a taller masonry bistro table at the end, brick foot pegs to rest your weary tootsies while sipping a drink, and a steel sun umbrella sheath with custom gravity-hold locking mechanism.

When completed this project will include a custom outdoor fireplace with flanking arbors that have stone-wrapped columns, lights from above and below to provide the perfect ambiance, and a new enclosure for the client’s hot tub, all within the expanded clay paver patio we’re adding.
